Scientists at Tomsk State University are developing a new silver catalyst that breaks down harmful particles into non-toxic substances to filter and purify the air, according to the Siberian Scientific Research Magazine.
This catalyst uses silicon oxide to make nanotubes with a diameter of 6 to 10 nanometers. Inside the tube is a synthesis product of silver and cerium oxide. "The difference between the new powder or granular catalysts and many similar products is that they have good activity and stability at room temperature," said Mamontov, a senior researcher at the Catalytic Research Laboratory at Tomsk State University.
In addition to decomposing harmful air particles, this catalyst can also prevent industrial toxic gas emissions, resist haze caused by forest fires, and treat gas emissions from chemical plants and purify automobile exhaust.
